Matt Anderson: Pediatric Dentist
It was during Dr. Matt Anderson’s (Dr. Matt) third year of dental school that he recognized a calling to specialize in the care of children. The birth of his own son the year before entering dental school and many meaningful experiences serving and advocating for individuals with special health care needs influenced his desire to work closely with children and their families.
After receiving his doctorate of dental surgery from the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine in 2014, Dr. Matt completed his Advanced Education in Pediatric Dentistry residency with NYU Lutheran Medical Center in San Diego in 2016.
Dr. Matt’s residency was housed within San Ysidro Health Center and had close ties with Rady Children’s Hospital. In this environment Dr. Matt partnered with multidisciplinary teams in the areas of cleft lip and palate, Down Syndrome and Hematology/Oncology to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for patients. Dr. Matt’s training included experience with both healthy children and families as well as those living with significant medical conditions and cognitive, intellectual, and developmental disabilities.
Dr. Matt’s path toward pediatric dentistry is one that includes a masters degree in counseling psychology from Lewis & Clark College and several years of service in mental health. He had a successful career in leadership and management as a regional director of operations for Banfield, The Pet Hospital, overseeing 23 veterinary practices. However, he missed being directly involved in a helping profession, and made the choice to pursue dentistry.
Immediately after the completion of his pediatric residency program, Dr. Matt moved back to his home state of Oregon with his wife, Jennifer—also a native Oregonian—and their son, Blake. Dr. Matt is an avid cyclist and endurance athlete, and he and his wife have both enjoyed coaching youth soccer. The Anderson family is eager to establish their roots in Central Oregon and experience all that the region has to offer families and children including educational activities as well as outdoor pursuits such as sports, hiking, camping, backpacking, floating, kayaking and anything related to snow.
